The Percussion Flute

It is played with cut out flip flops which are used as mallets that play at the base of the pipes.

I made the instrument from 1 1/2 “ PVC pipe.  I cut the pipe into 8 pieces.  The bottom  pipes were cut into 6”, 8”, 10” and 12” pieces.  I cut the pipe with a hand saw.  The upper pipes were cut in 6”, 12”, 18, and 24” lengths.  They were connected by elbows and PVC cement.  I used eight elbows to connect the lower and upper pipes.  I used a wood base that I drilled holes into and strapped the pipes down with metal straps.

I decorated the pipes by spraying them blue and then dotting them with chrome spray paint.
